Art in any form, I believe, is the soul’s way of interpreting the enigma of the Universe.
A well qualified ELT professional and having taught English at a school for nearly 8 years, my quest for a creative outlet began almost ten years ago when my soul began craving expression and evolution. Catharsis happened to me in the form of jewelry as I felt I wanted to create it. Learning to make lampwork beads was the icing on the cake.
I began with creating jewelry using Pasta and tiny glass beads and wire Now, I incorporate into my creations metal clay, hand made glass beads, semi-precious stones, silver wire, chinese knots using silk cords, Kumihimo braids, Polymer Clay and various other media and techniques that I absorb all the time .The Universe graciously concedes, guiding me to wonderful artists and master artists around the world, and to resources being made available in the most unbelievable ways at times.
My Art Clay Silver training and Level 1 and Senior certification was conducted by Kristy Rae in 2005, an amazing artist, teacher and human being.
In 2007, I was invited to Japan to train as an International Art Clay Silver Instructor.
Kim Hickox initiated me into the magic of creating glass beads…and Jeri Warhaftig has ever since been a wonderful guide and mentor .Since then,I have been fortunate enough to have been able to learn from artists like Kristina Logan, Kristen Frantzen Orr, Kim Fields, Kendra Bruno and
Stacy Frost.
I have learnt a lot about creating complete pieces of jewelry using seed beds and semi precious stones and other findings from my teacher and friend, Maggie Roschyk.
A Diploma in Jewelry Designing from the Gemmological Institute of India, Mumbai in 2004 notwithstanding,in 2009,I attended a certified day long intensive session in Jewelry Design with the celebrated master jewelry creator and mentor, Alan Revere.
In the same year, I also learnt to create exotic hand woven chains with the master jeweler and a wonderful friend, guide and mentor,
Michael David Sturlin.
Over the years, I have also had the privilege of attending addresses, lectures and demos form some very celebrated artists like Tim Mc Creight, Charles Lewton-Brain, Jackie Trutty, Barbara Becker Simon, Ann Scherm Baldwin, Robert Dancyk, Lucio Bubbacco, Vittorio, Stephanie Sersich and many more.
This year, my piece has been chosen for the Japan Jewellery designers’ Association Chairman’s Award in the Silver Accessories Contest, 2010.
A list of work published and covered by the media so far may be found at…….
Back home (in India), I have been honing my skills on my own, learning from books and through constant interaction with my friends, guides and mentors across the world.
Working with precious metal clay is an absolutely meditative experience for me.
Sitting at the torch, melting glass and believing it responds to you even though you know it’s you who has to give in to its whims to “make” beads is an awesome experience and a fascinating journey. It is indeed a passion that consumes.
I endeavour to fine tune my skills and my self constantly and consistently. I hope to meet and work with many more masters and learn more and more as I go along.
I choose to let the process of jewelry making and lampworking help me evolve as an individual with an innate ability to interpret the magic of the universe to create pieces that are universally celebrated and worn by wonderful souls who cherish the effort and the spirit with which each glass bead and piece of jewelry is patiently and paintstakingly handcrafted.
